On Thursday 29th January 2015, the iconic Old Billingsgate in London played host to a glittering array of celebrities and industry VIPs at the 62nd retailTRUST Celebration, formerly retailTRUST London Ball. Not only was this the first time we produced the event at Old Billingsgate, having been at The Grosvenor for 61 years, but we also moved the event from a Monday night to the much more fun Thursday night!
Just under 1000 guests packed the old fish market and celebrated the retail industry and its workers, raising an incredible £1.1million on the night for retailTRUST. The event, sponsored by American Express and Dransfield Properties, was hosted by E4 favourite Rick Edwards and was attended by some of the biggest names in retail, including Arcadia boss Sir Philip Green, Don McCarthy, Caprice, Jeff Banks CBE and Harold Tillman CBE.
The evening commenced with a sparkly display of roller-disco acrobatics, followed by a customised Heads and Tails using number one hits from the Studio 54 era. Entertainment came in the form of the one and only Kev Orkian who gave a fantastic performance, wowing the crowd with his absolute talent and humour. We ended the night on a huge high with Scouting for Girls performing a live set, before 80’s favourite DJ Pat Sharp, took to the DJ Booth – the dancefloor remained packed until we closed the event at 1am.
Don McCarthy was awarded with the prestigious retailLEGEND Award in honour of his entrepreneurship within the retail industry, his absolute dedication to the sector and its workers and his tireless fundraising for a huge number of charities including the Royal Marsden Hospital, to which he has donated millions of pounds.
Guests had the chance to donate to retailTRUST via a wealth of fundraising activities; they took part in a tombola with prizes from brands including Sony and Paul Smith, before the ever-popular Silent Auction and pledge. The Grand Auction consisted of exclusive bespoke lots such as a VIP Experience at Monaco Grand Prix, private Hospitality Boxes at sought after Take That and Ed Sheeran concert dates, an exclusive Chelsea experience and a week in Barbados – with the help of the indomitable Charlie Ross the Grand Auction raised over £130,000.
D&G Partners are proud to have supported retailTRUST this year in the full production and delivery of this event, along with table and advertising sales. This year saw D&G crew arrive at 5am at Old Billingsgate and transform a blank warehouse space into a stunning, glittering affair for the retail sector. From initial concepts through every logistical detail and to the final implementation, our D&G Productions team were on hand to manage and ensure that a goodnight was had by all.
