Iceland Food Charity Golf Day & Gala Dinner 2013

On 12th September 2013, suppliers and affiliates of Iceland gathered together for the Annual Charity Golf Day & Gala Dinner celebrating 21 years of the event. The day kicked off with an early morning breakfast and registration in the Clubhouse, after which 26 teams tee’ed off on the Nicklaus Course and a further 8 teams staggered their tee off’s on the Cheshire Course.Players were treated to some delicious food around the course including fish and chips from McCain and Young’s, an Oreo ice cream van, champagne, Magners and even a Greggs hut serving up fresh pasties! Other competitions were provided in various forms through-out the course including Nearest the Pin, Longest Drive, a Charity wager hole and the chance to win a Mini Cooper Countryman.

Lunch time entertainment came in the form of former World trick shot champion Paul Barrington with players being wowed by a variety of long drives and trick shots using hose pipe shafts, woods from 24” to 7ft long, balls driven through chip board, shots hit from the kneeling position and the famous ‘scissor shot’. The afternoon saw another 26 teams take to the Nicklaus Course and 15 teams take to the Cheshire Course for another 18 or 9 holes. Following a successful day on the golf course all 208 players and 134 additional evening guests were treated to a fantastic three course meal hosted for the sixteenth year running by Willie Miller.

Throughout the evening guests were kept amused by ex-Welsh rugby legend Scott Quinell, ex England cricketer Geoff Miller and finally Josh Daniels, who wowed the crowd with his ability to combine comedy whilst playing the Ukulele!The main auction on the night was a huge success including lots such as tickets to the X Factor Grand Final, hospitality for four at the 2014 British Grand Prix and the ultimate sporting medley package which included VIP tickets to attend the Henley Royal Regatta, Manchester United v Liverpool and Chester Races…to name but a few!

In total the event raised over £250,000, another massive increase from previous years. The monies raised were donated to the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation with the main benefactors being Alzheimer’s Research UK and Prostate Cancer UK.This year D&G Partners assisted Iceland in the recruitment of;

  • 52 golf teams of 4 players
  • 134 individual places for dinner
  • 84 pages of advertising in the official souvenir programme, across 137 supporting companies
  • 20 on course hole sponsors
  • 62 donated items to be used in auctions, raffle and gift bags
