On 6th July more 500 colleagues, friends, clients and suppliers attended the Howzat Test Match Ball at The Grange Tower Bridge. Hosted by David and Glen Nash the event celebrated its 10th year with a cricketing and glittering line up of non-stop entertainment.
Staunch supporters of Shooting Star Hospice, this year had already seen David and two of his team run the Marathon in aid of this amazing cause – the Howzat Test Match Ball provided another strong fundraising vehicle whilst also highlighting the amazing work the organisation does for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
On arrival guests were greeted with champagne, before making their way into the Trinity and Goodman Suite where live hosts, Russ Williams and Vicky Gomersall, greeted all and got the evening off to a raucous start with a bespoke game of Heads and Tails re-named Balls Up especially for the night. The fundraiser had guests throwing soft balls at their fellow guests to music in an effort to win a signed framed Alastair Cook Cricket bat.
With the ice well and truly broken, guests were treated to Moet Ice Imperial Champagne on every table kindly provided by the Nash brothers. Following on from the England vs South Africa game at Lord’s, David and Vicky facilitated an entertaining Q&A with cricketing legends Angus Fraser, Mike Proctor, Andrew Strauss and Andrew Flower – the sportsmen shared anecdotes whilst fielding questions from the audience.
After a delicious three course dinner, guests gave a standing ovation to Paul Chandler, representing Shooting Star Hospice, who spoke bravely and with humour about his role as a parent to a child receiving care at the Hospice. The brilliant Charlie Ross then toiled his way through 14 lots in the Main Auction including a Private Box at the ATP Tennis Masters Final, the opportunity to be a Movie Star for a day with Gateway films, a penthouse in Vegas with flights included, a stand-out Formula 1 Experience at the magical Monaco Grand Prix AND the chance to party at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Following the raffle draw, and back by popular demand, Scouting For Girls gave a brilliant private performance for guests before handing over to DJ Jazz and live musicians to round off an evening and early morning of dancing and celebrations!
