On 9th September 2015 we welcomed 108 amateur cricketers and twelve professional cricketers to The Kia Oval in London for the very first ‘Howzat 4 Homebase’ cricket day. After registration, players had the opportunity to meet the professionals they would be playing with including Graham Gooch OBE, Devon Malcolm, Corey Collymore, Adam Hollioake, Gareth Batty, Gladstone Small, Min Patel, Owais Shah, Alex Tudor, Simon Jones and Paul Nixon.
Play started at 9am with four teams taking to the pitch to play for the coveted trophy whilst other teams took to the stands to watch or made their way to the indoor cricket school where they could take part in a variety of activities including facing a ball at 70mph from the bowling machine, taking on the Merlyn spin bowling machine or the hit the stumps challenge.
The dinner was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Charlotte Jackson and commenced with the trophy presentation, with Robert Bosch taking home the Howzat 4 Homebase Cup and the runners up Cognizant, the plate. A sumptuous three course meal was served whilst the guests were entertained by the fabulous British-Armenian musician and comedian Kev Orkian who wowed the crowd with his key board and singing skills whilst injecting hilarious humour.
BBC Auctioneer Thomas Plant conducted a main auction with lots such as a holiday to Desert Springs and Mauritius, a bowling masterclass with England’s Steven Finn, a spa break to Champneys, a skiing trip to Las Rosier and a private plane and lunch in Jersey. The night was rounded off by a set from Sugar Kube who had the crowd dancing late in to the night.
