On 15th May 2014, Simon Cowell, supermodel Petra Nemcova and the Duchess of York were among the guests at the glamorous Caudwell Children Butterfly Ball which raised an incredible £2,500,000, a record-breaking night for national charity, Caudwell Children. The charity, which provides practical and emotional support for disabled children and their families, hosted the 2014 Butterfly Ball at Grosvenor House, Park Lane where over 800 guests enjoyed a glamorous evening of entertainment and fundraising, culminating in an exclusive performance by the princess of pop, Kylie Minogue. The evening’s auction, which was hosted by renowned charity auctioneer, Charlie Ross, raised an amazing £2,000,000 for the charity founded by the entrepreneur and philanthropist, John Caudwell. Lots on offer in the exclusive auction included a week on Sir Richard Branson’s private island, a chance to meet the presenters of Top Gear at a special event in South Africa and a rare opportunity to have dinner with former Soviet statesman, Mikhail Gorbachev in Germany on the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
During the event guests were entertained with performances from the opera singer, Alfie Boe and a rare acoustic performance of Pretenders hits by Chrissie Hynde and guitarist James Walbourne.Some of the guests carried the party on into the small hours with an after-show party in the hotel’s Red Bar with a DJ set from Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters. The evening was hosted by singer and Caudwell Children ambassador, Peter Andre, who said: “Behind all this glitz and glamour there is some amazing work being done. You only have to scratch beneath the surface to see this money is truly changing lives.”Proceeds from the event will be used to transform the lives of disabled children living in the UK through a range of services. Since 2000 the charity has provided over £30million worth of support and helped thousands of families from right across the country.Charity Chief Executive, Trudi Beswick, said: “We are delighted at the overwhelming support we received from all of our guests here this evening. This money is more important than ever as the demand for support increases. This will enable us to touch the lives of thousands of children.
